Richelieu Dennis founder of SheaMoisture officially launches $100 million New Voices Fund supporting women of color at the Essence Festival. I first learned about this fund at the Black Women Talk Tech Conference in February. Where Richelieu was intervened by Kimberly Weisul Editor-at-Large, Inc. Where he believed “that we should invest our profits where we make our profits.”
New Voices Fund provides capital for start-ups, established businesses and community-based enterprises led by women of color entrepreneurs. They work with businesses as early as Seed round to and through Series C funding.
In addition to the launch of the new fund, they sponsor a pitch competition where Yelitsa Jean-Charles founder, of Healthy Roots Dolls won $25, 000.00. Healthy Roots is a toy company that creates dolls and storybooks that reinforce positive self-perceptions of the richly diverse, varying shades of complexion and natural hair textures among girls of color.
